SALA Achitects Sawgrass Concept
In 2009, we began a collaboration with Twin Cities-based SALA Architects, known nationally for creating distinctive cabins and vacation homes that blend seamlessly with their natural surroundings. Our association has resulted in exciting new design concepts for the Sawgrass community.

The work of lead architect and SALA Principal David O’Brien Wagner, AIA has been recognized with numerous design awards, and has been applauded for its beauty, fine details, and sensitivity to local cultures and landscapes. For Sawgrass, David drew inspiration from the rugged Northern Wisconsin region, and more specifically from the rich boating and fishing history unique to the Village of Cornucopia. Authentic materials, textures, and vernacular building forms found in Cornucopia have been artfully infused into each of these new cottage plans.

These uniquely designed homes- constructed predominantly on a “pier” foundation system- sit lightly on the land. Construction practices, including using SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels), are directed towards creating energy-efficient and ecologically sensitive homes that are also practical and affordable. Tapping into the growing trend of building small but well, these SALA designs can begin small while incorporating the concept of “incremental additions” that may be phased-in over time as needs and budgets allow. This concept permits buyers to buy small, well-built, and inexpensive homes with multiple options for the future.
